Our Simmons Family Legacy Starts Here…

with Papa Nathaniel and Grandma Rosa

Nathaniel and Rosa Walker-Simmons raised their family in the rural community of Osyka, in Pike County, Mississippi. Sources tell us that they had 17 children; 5 children died at birth. Their children were:

Ollie           Charles     Lucretia        Floyd
Edna          Tillman      Early            Velma
Georgia      Emmit      Maria            Jake

They also raised their daughter Georgia’s son, Otis Simmons.

Early was the 7th child of Nathaniel and Rosa.  He married Lettie Hurst-Simmons and 11 children were born to this union. They are:

Robert Earl (deceased)
Edna Bernice (deceased)
Ida Belle                                 Rose Marie
Henry                                     Edward
Helen Inez                              Ada B. (deceased)
Joseph Eddie                           Edna B (Grace)

Later Early and Lettie divorced and he married Della Haynes. They adopted 2 girls, Tonya and Sonya.  Early was a gospel preacher. He started the Mt. Carmel Church in Chatawa, MS (Terry’s Creek Community); built and pastored Mars Hill COGIC. and pastored the Holly Hill COGIC in Tyler, MS.  Early departed this life January  24, 1988.

The Beginning of the Foundation...

Human suffering-they viewed it first hand-from McComb, Mississippi to Louisiana, Texas, and across these United States.  It greatly troubled Rose Maria Anding, Oliver W. Smith, Wilma T. Butler and Cynthia Simmons, all members of the Simmons family who themselves had seen too many broken lives. All were haunted by the optimistic expectations of childhood, which had manifested itself in those all around them as "the real world."

In "the real world," you must work for your daily bread. Your money is cut into by taxes. Your money is snatched away by unscrupulous people in the real world. Your future is twisted into the darkness of slavery to poverty, addiction, sickness and death in "the real world." The innocence of the child in all of us is stolen in the real world. Christ was sold for thirty pieces of silver...and a servant is no greater than his master.

Ironically, it was "the real world" that led these four to form EARLY AND LETTIE SIMMONS FOUNDATION FOR HUMANITY-in honor of Rose's parents.  The prevailing spirit, the mission of Christ, was to end human suffering. Thus the foundation was founded in October of 2007.

God's instructions to Rose were to...
"Change the communities by demonstrating my love to the hard to reach, the forgotten, the hurting, and the remnants. Those are the people in the communities that don't know me. They don't own Bibles, and they don't go to church, and they have not heard my word. I want you to be my social minister to combine the social needs with teaching and loving my people-love in action. Lift me up and I will draw them to me. And if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me" (John 12:32).

Anding followed God's instructions and set up the foundation, pulling together other organizational leaders that had been given visions by God for the communities. Her education, wealth of business knowledge, and invaluable life experiences, has prepared her for the mantle of leadership she has been given-"Stepping into the Vision."

Rose Maria Simmons Anding has over thirty-five years of experience in system design and analysis. With a BS Degree in Computer Science and a minor in Accounting / Marketing, Anding has spent many years working on mainframes and other computers, in a business and customer service environment. She has worked as a consultant for various branches of the Federal government, in the areas of designing, management, financial and inventory systems. She spent several years as a manager with the Boeing and McDonnell Douglass Aircraft Corporations setting up various projects.

One of her major assignments as project manager was with the US Postal Service doing ongoing analysis and implementation of the Zip Code system that involved the last four digits of the zip code. Some of her other experience included: loan broker; sales manager of an apartment complex; owner/operator of a retail store; and a business consultant, helping set up business entities. She has written business plans, loan packages, and grant proposals; set up 501c (3) tax status; and has taught countless individuals on how to get started with their vision.

Anding has a vision and heart to impact the lives of men and women who are bound by substance abuse. God freed Rose from twenty-five years of drug abuse. She completed a program at Life Change Institute for Women in Houston, Texas.

God snatched Rose out of Satan's web so He could to speak to her, and give her a vision. He told Rose to:
"Write the vision and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie, though it tarry, wait for it; because it shall surely come, it will not tarry" (Habakkuk 2:2-3).

Hence the vision was planted in Rose's heart and since then, God has given her clear directives on how to bring it to past. God anointed her to teach his Word once home from treatment in Texas. Rose taught and shepherded the members of Faith Temple Ministries for eight months, helping to unite the church in peace and love.

These experiences have prepared her for this project, "STEPPING INTO THE VISION,"-the God-given vision, the purpose she was born to carry out. She is equipped to take a project from conception to implementation and do the assessment of the project that God has placed in her hands. She is a minister, anointed woman of God. She has set up and directed youth programs, written a book that will be released in August 2010, and she is in love with Jesus.

The Core of the Vision

This is the vision that God has given her: He said, "Extend my message outside of the four walls of the church and change the communities by demonstrating my love to the hard to reach, the forgotten, the hurting, and the remnants. Those are the people in the communities that don't know me. They don't own Bibles, and they don't go to church, and they have not heard my word. I want you to be my social minister to combine the social needs with teaching and loving my people, love in action. Lift me up and I will draw them to me."

"And if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me"
(John 12:32).

EL Foundation's "Stepping Into the Vision" Mission

"Stepping into the Vision Project" consists of several comprehensive outreach programs that span over various areas of need. Our ultimate goal is to:

  •  Reduce the rate of homeless people, and of domestic violence,
  •  Provide better care for the elderly and disabled population,
  •  Set up alternative to substance abuse,
  •  Establish an academy to train future leaders,
  •  Run a mentorship program for the various groups,
  •  Establish the youth's activities program, include the awareness of STD/AIDS/HIV,
  •  Run the literacy program,
  •  Build forty-five single-family houses for the low- to moderate-income population.

These programs will aid in the restoration of people's lives through the infusion of intellectual, emotional and spiritual influence, which is directed to help them discard harmful patterns, and avoid addictive/destructive relationship and behaviors. We will also teach them how to:

1) stay out of those behaviors which often lead to jail or even prison,

2) reduce the school dropout rate, and

3) become positive contributors to society.  We will also bring awareness of our nation's fastest growing population to the local churches, and what their role is in reaching those impacted by the various needs.

The substance abuse population includes the youth, middle age and elderly who are locked within the trapping of addiction, prostitution, crime, and homelessness like a silent treasure waiting to be released. We the church must offer them the mending power of the gospel.  The church, as the body of Christ, the sleeping giant-must rise out of our comfortable setting and rescue those hidden deposits of greatness. We must point these lives in the direction of their destiny. As a result, they can return to their families as role models, to the church as a gift, to the body of Christ and to the communities as evidence of the love, power, and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
