The simple, yet profound message of this book is:
No matter how far down you have sunk,
Maria McCarthy, as she was known during those 25 years of the fast life, was finally given an ultimatum by her fourth husband: Get it together, or get out. But before that fall day in 2006 when Maria entered a spiritual rehab center–-and started to believe in herself because she knew that God believed in her--she had been trapped in Satan's web. The bondage that she needed to find a way out of was wrapped up in sex, drugs, manipulation and seduction, and an earlier abusive marriage.
How did Maria go so wrong? Who or what led her down that path to personal, physical and financial destruction? Certainly the devil, but also her desire to "pay back" men who had hurt her with their infidelity--and just because she could.
"A dynamic account of one woman's struggle to overcome the temptations of the world, the allure of the 'in crowd' and the pursuit of the fast lane--all the things that lead to her personal confrontation with society as an unexpected addict."
- Rev. Dr. Joseph N. Simmons
Pastor, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chicago, Illinois
In the 1980s, Maria's worst nightmare came to pass. She woke to see her name in the Washington Post and on national news when Mayor Marion Barry of Washington, DC. was arrested in a hotel room, videoed using cocaine. Maria was one of Barry's favored "lady friends." The woman who had introduced Barry to Maria cooperated with the police to get him arrested.
High Heels, Honey Lips, and White Powder is the personal testimony written by Maria after she fell in love with Jesus during a three-month stay in a God-based treatment center. She had been a drug user, homeless, assaulted, and involved with famous men in famous places. During that time, she was raped, robbed, beaten, shot at-and she was even jailed. She had been the Proverbs 5 woman-the harlot, the tease, the woman who is out to hurt her man/men.
Last 2006, Maria became Rose, the flower God opened so she could become the woman she was supposed to be, no longer hurting-but rather helping others. This is the "tale of salvation of the Proverbs 5 woman."
This is my love story from the world of high heels, honeyed lips,
A Book Review I am Proud to Share…
In this life we can look around us and see many hurting souls. We may not know what is causing the pain but we can sense it, see it in their eyes, watch it in their actions. In this book we meet a woman whose choices led her down some dark and lonely roads and cost her great loss. It is the story of a woman who chose the forbidden fruit that led to devastation until she truly turned to the God who is more than enough to turn her life around.
We are taken with her into the darkness of her nights, share many pains as she unfolds the battles she fought, losing most, but finally yielding her full self to the only one who had all she had been looking for all of her life.
This was a very moving story. The author wrote from her heart with honesty, baring her very soul. I loved the way she gave God the credit for her victory and also how she shares with the reader the steps she took to get there. If you are struggling and you think you can never get out of the life you are living, this book will help you understand there is light at the end of the tunnel, and you too can find victory.
Very well done.
